I received an advance copy from Book Sirens. This review is my own facts and opinions.
The world-building in this book was wild and very detailed. I really felt like I was in the world.
Briatta felt like a very real character and I really felt for her and was on her side the whole time. I really felt for her on her Choosing and the result it gave her. My jaw dropped while reading that scene because it was wild with everything happening. I loved all the details going into the Choosing, the stay at the hotel, the bath, etc. The author really spent a lot of time making this book and its culture. Her family was very fun and supportive.
I absolutely loved the fighting and action scenes. It felt like I was in on the action and I could visualize the whole fight in my mind, so props to the author for that. I also really enjoyed the characters of Vydian and Neven.
Also, the names in this book? Perfect. Most of them were names we use in everyday life, but slightly changed, which really helped fully bring me into this world.
The only problem I had with this book was that some plot points were blink and you would miss it. Maybe this was me accidentally skipping a page, but it felt like the big parts were quick and a little confusing. I didn't quite understand why the parts of the book from the perspective of Galen were there. It made more sense at the end, but for a while it was confusing.
Overall, this was a book that clearly had a lot of time and effort placed into it, and that I really enjoyed reading. I will definitely be on the lookout for the next book in the series because the ending was something else.
ALSO, the ending? Fantastic. It has a bit of suspense and made me annoyed when there wasn't another chapter to read. Great job to the author for that!
