8+ just because a kid needs to be able to understand what is happening to Cassie and her family.

This book was such a good book! Shannon Hale has always been one of my favorite authors (I loved Real Friends, Best Friends, and Friends Forever) so I was so excited to read a new book of hers! This is such an adorable book.

The main character's name is Cassie and she is a middle-ish child in a family of six kids and feels left out in her family. At school she has a best friend named Vali (I absolutely love the names in this book by the way) and is in Mrs. Farmer's class, an absolutely magical class (which is something I relate to). One day, she gets a letter in the mail that says she won a big prize and she spends hours daydreaming about what this prize could be. Putting myself in Cassie's shoes, I would have had her same reaction. No one believes her that she won the prizes, but she doesn't lose hope. At the same time, she is losing her best friend to another girl in her class called Stesha (another awesome name). This book felt very realistic and was a super fun read. There are a lot of interesting things happening and it was a pretty quick read for me but I would definitely read it again. I think this book would intrigue a lot of different audiences and definitely recommend it!
